Chinese Arrested for Trafficking 2 Filipino "Brides" at Ninoy Aquino International Airport

MANILA (6 June 2013)- A Chinese national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for allegedly attempting to traffic two Filipinas to China, where they would be matched for marriage to Chinese Nationals. According to Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr., both the Persons in Trafficking Act of 2003 and the 2012 law that expanded it, declare the act of matching Filipinas for marriage to foreign nationals as unlawful. The two Filipinas initially claimed that they were going to Beijing as tourists but could not answer questions from immigration officers about their itinerary upon arriving there. They later changed their stories and said that upon arrival in Beijing their Chinese male companion would try to convince authorities that they were real tourists, and would have eventually been matched for marriage with Chinese men whom they have not yet met.
